If this is your first time here, please register so that you can [#Specify_your_language_preferences|specify your language preferences]. Specifying your language preferences allows for the display of records side by side in your first two preferred languages (the wiki allows for more than two languages at once). First, register: * Click on the link __Register__. * Fill-in the form and click the __Register__ button. * One or two minutes later, you will receive an e-mail with a confirmation link. Click that link (except if you are advised to do otherwisee during training). * Now that you are registered, you may [#Specify_your_language_preferences|specify your language preferences]. Please note that registration alone does not give you the right to modify records. One of the administrators may add you in the list of the __Editors__ if it is necessary. If you feel you should be an editor, please [#Contact_administrators|contact the administrators]. !Specify your language preferences If you work mostly in two languages (e.g. English and French), then you should specify your language preferences. Please note however that you must first [#Instructions_for_users_who_have_just_registered|register on the site]. To change your preferences: * [tiki-user_preferences.php|Go here] (or click on the link __Preferences__ of the leftt menu) * Choose your mother tongue as your __Preferred language__, instructions of the site will be displayed in that language. * Click on __Can you read more languages?__ * Click on __Select language....__, and then on your second language. * You can repeat that step to add other languages. * Click on __Change preferences__ at the very bottom of the page. !Search for a term To search a term: * Type the term in the field __Search a term__ of the __Terminology__ module (usually on top right corner). * Choose the language of the searched term. * Click on the __Go__ button. If only one term is found, it is automatically displayed. If you specified another language in your [#Specify_your_language_preferences|language preferences], the system will display the term side by side in those two languages. When the system finds more than one term matching your query, it will displays the list of all matching terms. !To modify an existing term First, you must [#Search_for_a_term|search for a term]. Then, simply click on the __Modify__ button located under the term in the language you want to modify. If you do not see the __Modify__ button, it means you are not in the __Editors__ group. If you think you should be allowed to modify the records, please [#Contact_administrators|contact the administrators]. ! To create a new term To create a new term in a given language: * Type the term in the __Search a term__ of the __Terminology__ module (usually on the top right corner). * Click on the __Go__ button. * If the term does not already exists, the button __Create the page:__ followed by the term appears. Click oon this button. * The page will contain a template with some pre-filled field. Simply fill the required fields. ^__WARNING:__ If you enter data in the __Synonyms and Acronyms__ field, make sure you follow the instructions contained in the template. ^ !To create an equivalent in another language When a term has no equivalent in a target language, you may proceed as follows: * Go to the choosen term: * Click on the __Translate__ button under the term. * Select the language in the __Language of the new page__ list. * Enter the equivalent in the __Name of the new page__ field. * Click on the __Create the translation__ button. * Delete the __Translation in progress__ mention. * Write over or simply rewrite from scratch as you prefer. * Click on the __Translation complete__ button. ^__Note:__ When you create a record from an existing content in another language, field names will remain in that language, unless you translate temp yourself. For example, if you create a record from a french record, the Definition field will appear as __Définition__ (i.e. with an accent). The system will be modified in a near future to translate the field names automatically.^ !To ask a question: If you want to know how a term translates in a given language, you have two opttions: __Option 1:__ Ask your question on one of the [tiki-forums.php|forums]. once you know the answer, you may also wish to help the community a lot by creating a page for this term. See section [#Cr_er_l__quivalent_d_un_terme_dans_une_autre_langue|Create an equivalent in another language]. __Option 2:__ Go to the term's page in the source language (or [#Cr_er_un_nouveau_terme|create it] if it does not already exists), and add a comment asking for the equivalent in the target language. Click on the "watch this page" icon (the eye on top of the page) to let the system know you want to be advised when this page is modified. The system will advise you when the record is modified, including when someone will answer your comment. ^__Note:__ If you cannot create a message in the forum or insert a comment, you are not member of the __Editors__ group. If you think you should be par of that group, please [#Contacter_les_administrateurs|contact the administrators]^ !To add more equivalens for a term If you know another translation for a term found, you can proceed this way: Simply modify the page for this term and add an alias in the section __Synonyms and Acrnyms__. To add an alias, you must enter ~np~(alias(other_equivalent))~/np~, where où "alias" is the word "alias" as such, while "other_equivalent" is the new equivalent you want to add. As an example, if you see a page "wiki engine" and want to add "wiki motor", you modify the page "wiki-engin", and add ~np~(alias(wiki motor))~/np~. !To create a page that adds a different meaning to an existing term Very often, meaning will be different according to the context or the domain. However, here, two pages cannot have the same name. To live with that while achieving the goal of having two records, simply create a new record adding a few words prefixed by a double dash to avoid the ambiguity. As an example, if you wanted to create a page named "terminal", with the transport context meaning the place where people gett in or out of an aircraft of a train, but find you already have a record with terminal meaning a node of a network. You would create a term called "terminal~np~ --transports~/np~", and write the appropriate definition in it. The name of the page should also change from "terminal" to "terminal~np~--computer_scien~/np~" (simply go to the page "terminal" and click on the __Rename__ button. ^__IMPORTANT: Do not use parentheses!!!__ Avoid creating a term such as "terminal (informatique)", it would create problems. In particular, it will be impossible to make a hyperlink to this term.^ !Contact Administrators Documentation à venir... !Instructions for newly registered users This site is configured to support collaborative multilingual terminology work.
